Open Gardens is hosted by the Barbados Horticultural Society and takes place between January and April every year. This event commenced in 1988, and each year private gardens are chosen and opened to the public for a small fee.

The Barbados Horticultural Society was established in 1927 by a group of 13 enthusiasts and since inception has been affiliated with the Royal Horticultural Society.[/twocol_one] [twocol_one_last]Balls plantation[/twocol_one_last]

[twocol_one]The Society is a non-profit, non-governmental organization with a membership of over three hundred, which promotes horticulture and facilitates its development in Barbados.

In addition to the Open Gardens, the Barbados Horticultural Society hosts an annual fundraising event at Balls Plantation which is always very well attended. This takes place the last Saturday and Sunday in January.[/twocol_one] [twocol_one_last]Chelsea show[/twocol_one_last]

[twocol_one]There are several flower arrangements on display as well as award wining Orchids, Bonsai and Cactus.

Several stalls are set up each selling a wonderful array of art, pots and variety of plants (including orchids and roses) to the delight of all patrons. The Barbados Horticultural Society has been exhibiting at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show since 1988.

[twocol_one] To date the Society has won 15 Gold, 9 Silver-Gilt and 1 Silver medal at this prestigious flower show.
