Open Gardens is hosted by the Barbados Horticultural Society and takes place between January and April every year. This event commenced in 1988, and each year private gardens are chosen and opened to the public for a small fee.

The Barbados Horticultural Society was established in 1927 by a group of 13 enthusiasts and since inception has been affiliated with the Royal Horticultural Society.

The Society is a non-profit, non-governmental organization with a membership of over three hundred, which promotes horticulture and facilitates its development in Barbados.

In addition to the Open Gardens, the Barbados Horticultural Society hosts an annual fundraising event at Balls Plantation which is always very well attended. This takes place the last Saturday and Sunday in January.
